"Love" (عشق) in Persian and Arabic Calligraphy
The word "عشق" pronounced as "Eshgh" or "Ishq" means love/passion in Arabic and Persian (Farsi) language. This word received a lot of attention from calligraphers and other artists.
The word is repeatedly used in Persian literature, specially in Rumi (mevlana) and Hafiz poems. One example is (from Hafiz):
از صدای سخن عشـق ندیدم خوشـتر --- یادگاری کـه در این گنـبد دوار بـماند
Found nothing more joyful than the sound of words of love.
In this turning Merry-Go-Round that You rewind.

Another poem by Hafiz:
ماییم و آستانه عشق و سر نیاز --- تا خواب خوش که را برد اندر کنار دوست
We stand in love's land, while our need's grand -- Sweet dream brought along side love
